With very precise requirements, both Sterling and Scania worked closely with KMB through the design and engineering stage. Mini cranes have a very low ground clearance and high point loading, therefore the high specification cheesewedge body with fully fold flat ramps gave an excellent loading angle. When folded, a flat deck is formed allowing the truck to be used as a flatbed for building materials and other equipment. Furthermore, the bespoke headboard facilitates storing and transporting of ground protection mats.
The finished product was fitted to a low profile Scania 8×2 chassis with all axles on full air suspension. A Sterling low profile body provided KMB with the lowest possible deck height to carry the taller mini cranes but still be well within the 4,000mm European height limit. Investing in features such as a rear lift and steer axle opens new opportunities for KMB such as accessing built up areas that were previously inaccessible. This amazing beast can carry over 18T on a single load!
Having confidence in the quality of the Sterling build process was the deciding factor for KMB. Recommendations and experience from other European firms who had also used the North Yorkshire based firm, only confirmed it. Unique features such as galvanising components such as the ramps and stabilizer legs not only protect against corrosion and extend the working life, but have become one of their trademarks. You can’t miss them on the road!
Viktor Zimcik of KMB commented on receiving the truck, ‘A very good job. High quality work has been done by Sterling people! Thank you! The truck is first of its kind here in the Czech Republic as far as we know.’ Now finished and on the road, it certainly looks the part with the stunning graphics on the Cab!
As the fastest growing company in their niche industry, Sterling is the UK’s largest manufacturer of plant bodies, but offers the complete range of their products throughout Europe.
Jarl James, sales manager at Sterling commented, ‘it’s great to see how our experience and expertise has combined so well with a business in a country we’ve never supplied previously. It’s proves how well our product range has developed and the scope of our expertise gives us the ability to supply clients with a diverse range of equipment.
