Nationwide Platforms

Published on: 22nd September 2023

Nationwide Platforms is the largest provider of powered access solutions in the United Kingdom. They are renowned for their commitment to excellence, safety, and delivering top-quality access solutions to customers across various industries. Their mission is to deliver sustainable powered access solutions for their customers, keeping them safe, productive, profitable, and expertly trained when working at height.

Recently they took delivery of 14 Volvo trucks fitted with Sterling Beavertail bodies to further enhance their fleet of delivery trucks. This is in addition to 48 Sterling Beavertail bodies which were fitted to Scania trucks in 2022.

Nationwide went with their usual access spec body from Sterling. The Sterling access spec body is the market leader when it comes to beavertail bodies for access machinery. This is for numerous reasons:

  1. Shallow Loading Angle: With a loading angle of less than 12 degrees, this body ensures smooth and safe loading and unloading of equipment, minimizing the risk of accidents and damage to access platforms. Access machinery can have very low ground clearance which means they can easily ground out and get stuck when loading, which costs the driver time.
  2. Full Steel Mesh Deck: The full steel mesh deck provides maximum grip, which provides the most grip for access machinery which typically have smooth wheels which can easily slip. Making the Sterling deck surface some of the safest on the market.
  3. High Point Loading: The access machinery is typically heavy with smaller wheels which means that their point loading is high, we have closer cross members in the body, at 300mm spacing so our body can take this.
  4. Most Lashing Points & Rings: With 12 pairs of 5t lashing rings down each side of the body and a dual row down the centre of the body, the Access Spec Sterling Body is well-equipped to secure equipment of various sizes, making it suitable for a wide range of access platforms.
  5. Full Scene Lighting: The inclusion of full scene lighting enhances work safety and efficiency, especially in low-light conditions or night-time operations, thereby reducing potential risks.
  6. Innovative Ramp and Gate System: The full-width ramp with a gate streamlines equipment loading and unloading processes, making it not only efficient but also secure, reducing the risk of accidents during transportation.
  7. Delivery capability: Sterling are the largest UK supplier of beavertail plant bodies building at a rate exceeding 1 per working day. This allowed the new trucks to be completed and put into service in the shortest possible timescale.
  8. Aftersales backup: Nationwide Platforms have confidence in the Sterling aftersales support network which they have been using successfully for nearly 15 years now. It gives peace of mind that any issues or parts required can be promptly resolved keeping the trucks doing their job delivering machines.

In conclusion, Nationwide Platforms’ recent acquisition of 14 Volvo and 48 Scania trucks equipped with Sterling’s market-leading access spec body underscores their unwavering commitment to safety, efficiency, and customer satisfaction. Sterling’s access spec beavertail body will allow Nationwide Platforms to offer their premium services as normal, whilst having peace of mind that their transport capability is up to the task. Investing in this high-quality product is a clear example of how Nationwide Platforms is committed to providing their clients with exceptional access solutions.

James Clarke, Transport Director of Nationwide Platforms, emphasised:
