Experience and a technical background is always necessary when offering an after sales service to your customers. That’s why Phil Hunwick, our technical support manager, is a great employee helping our customers to reduce downtime. Here is a little more insight into how he contributes to Sterling’s industry leading customer service.
Q. How long have you been working in the trucking/transportation industry?
A. I have been working in the industry for about 30 years, and have nearly completed 20 years here at Sterling!
Q. What have you enjoyed the most about working in the industry?
A. I enjoy networking and collaborating with the mechanics who operate the trucks and our agents who repair them. Not only can I use my knowledge to help them, but I report back to our R&D Department helping to improve our designs.
Q. You work with Sterling’s customers on a day to day basis, what would you say makes our after sales service industry leading?
A. We have a comprehensive network of repair agents across the country that are familiar with our beavertail plant bodies. Combine this with our excellent parts department and a great follow up system, we make sure our customers have a smooth experience whilst keeping their downtime costs low.
Q. What advice would you give to our customers operating a Sterling beavertail?
A. They should make sure they get the correct specification of beavertail plant body that provides a solution to their needs, train their drivers on how to operate the equipment safely and efficiently, keep a regular maintenance schedule for the beavertail body and not just the base vehicle.
Q. With all this information you collect from working in the technical department, you help to create the best products for our customers. Why do you think innovation is key to Sterling’s success?
A. The transport industry is always evolving and constantly looking for new, safe and more cost effective and efficient ways of moving plant and access equipment. By leading the way with innovation, our customers look to Sterling to provide quality products which take the hassle out of their daily routines and reduce their maintenance costs.
