Introduction

The Clancy Group, one of the UK’s largest privately owned construction firms, has a legacy spanning over six decades. Established in 1958, the company has consistently upheld a reputation for delivering high-quality work across a wide array of sectors, including civil engineering, utilities, traffic management, plant operations, and training.

A recent addition to their fleet, the Sterling Multiload beavertail, reflects Clancy’s commitment to enhancing operational efficiency and safety. Built to Clancy’s exact specifications, equipped with state-of-the-art safety features, including enhanced load restraint systems.

Since its introduction the Sterling Multiload has already begun transforming their transport and logistics processes whilst ensuring they continue to meet the evolving demands and complex construction and infrastructure projects.

Built to specification

The Sterling Multiload, renowned for its unrivalled engineering, is a multifunctional plant body designed to deliver exceptional performance, safety, and versatility. For Clancy, the beavertail was built on a Volvo FMX 8×2 32T rigid chassis, incorporating key optional extras tailored to their needs:

  • Full-width cheesewedge ramp with middle gate. When not in operation the ramp is stowed flat.
  • Decking – expanded mesh on the slopes and dual serrated mesh on the ramps – allowing better air flow when the ramps are stowed vertically.
  • Ladder rack located at the headboard.
  • Lashing rings along the channel side rave, spaced at 900mm apart.
  • Tow Ball located at the headboard for securing water bowsers or lighting towers.
  • 3.5T Ball and Jaw towing coupling.
  • 3.5T Ball and Jaw towing coupling12000lb Electric Winch.

Key features and benefits of the Multiload:

Optimised Safety and Accessibility

Boasts a low deck height and market-leading ramp angles, ensuring safer loading and on-road performance.

Versatile loading options

For Clancy, the configuration chosen was a full-width cheesewedge ramp with middle gate. However, the ramp can be configured as a twin, and without a gate along with the choice of either stowed flat onto the bed or upright, giving you configurations that best fits your loading and storage needs.

Dual-purpose design

Functions seamlessly as both a crane vehicle for lift-on items and a beavertail for drive-on machinery, maximising utility and productivity.

Conclusion

The partnership between Clancy Group and Sterling represents a harmonious blend of tradition and innovation. By incorporating the Sterling Multiload into their fleet, Clancy not only enhances their operational capabilities but also sets a benchmark for safety and efficiency in the construction sector. The result is a solution that not only meets but exceeds the demands of modern construction logistics.
